AAC program receives IELTS Morgan Terry Award

Savva Papandony, Head Teacher (ELICOS) at Australian Academy of Commerce, excited to receive the IELTS Morgan Terry Memorial Award

The IELTS Morgan Terry Memorial IATEFL Scholarship Award is a prestigious award which celebrates innovative practice in the teaching of IELTS. The annual scholarship is awarded for creative, resourceful and innovative teaching ideas and applications are invited from teachers all over the world. Previous winners have come from New Zealand, Canada, Turkey and the UK.

We are delighted to announce this year’s winner is Savva Papandony, Head Teacher of the Australian Academy of Commerce (AAC) in Sydney, Australia.  The award convers Savva attendance at IATEFL Glasgow later this year, including travel, accommodation, a year’s IATEFL membership and registration for the TEASIG’s pre-IATEFL conference event.

Savva is very pleased which his achievement: “I was actually quite surprised to have won the IELTS Morgan Terry Memorial Scholarship, as I know there are many interesting and worthwhile programs being taught in the field of IELTS. I am also aware of the high standard of teaching we have in Australia, so to be chosen was not only a surprise, but a validation of all of the work done, not only by me, but by all at our college. Going to Glasgow in 2017 will be an exciting opportunity to network on behalf of my college, and to learn more from my peers in the field of teaching IELTS.

AAC’s IELTS program is a college/community based series of events, where monthly workshops are held for free in Kogarah Library, next door to our college. Starting with an overview of IELTS to help applicants decide which test was the best for them, a series of seminars were, and are, being held that focus on different components of the test. All sessions have been recorded, not only for use online, but to share with affiliated colleges, and to review for further improvement.”
